Overview

(Silicon Chip Magazine February '10) If you have a laptop PC you can build your own OBDII interface so you can access all the information contained in your vehicles computer. Far cheaper than a dedicated handheld scan tool used by mechanics.

On board diagnostics are found on all cars sold in Australia from 2006 onwards. You may not realise that your vehicle has an amazing array of sensors to make sure that your engine and electrical system run at peak efficiency and minimise emissions. The performance of each of these sensors can be monitored to ensure your vehicle is running well. These sensors can also be vital in tracking down common automotive problems.

This OBDII interface unit may be connected between your laptop and your vehicles OBDII diagnostic port. Then when used with easily available software, you can easily monitor hundreds of sensor readings.
